Here's my situation.
My hard drive is a Samsung SV8013H, I believe, and it runs at 5400rpm.
I leave my computer on constantly, 24 hours a day, and I have for the entire time I've owned it, which is about a year and a half. Recently (say over the past 2 months), I've noticed a high-pitched whine coming from the hard drive, and upon further research, I've discovered that, with hard drives constantly left on, the bearings can break down slightly and produce this whining noise. I've had absolutely no trouble out of the HD, it reads and writes perfectly, and I've gotten no errors and no other problems out of it.
So, my question is simple: should I look into replacing the hard drive as soon as possible or is it really nothing to worry about? I've looked up a few sites on the net, and it seems like the whirring noise is pretty common in hard drives, and it's a documented problem with this particular Samsung. Any thoughts?

broken bearings and weird noises are always bad news as far as i'm concerned. I guess if its a documented and nknown problem on this particular drive and others have had them work fine for a while after the noise starts, then you're probably fine.
in my opinion? the drive is going to die at some point, you just dont know when. With broken bearings, i assume that time will come a bit quicker now. I would replace it. Better safe than sorry. but thats just me...
